I’ve been in the thick of wedding season, so apologies for not getting this INCREDIBLE wedding up earlier. Lindsey and Chris are one of a cluster of California weddings I’ve done over the last couple of years and more specifically friends of Joanna and Peter who I shot in Mill Valley. What an extraordinary treat to get to know Lindsey and Chris, their friends and family. Lindsey’s dad and uncle were constantly asking if I needed anything, if I’d eaten and if they could do anything to make me more comfortable.

They did something really neat that I hadn’t seen before and adored (and wished I had done at my wedding.) They invited their closest friends and family in a beautiful underground light sculpture out behind the de Young and saw one another for the first time among them and then made individual vows to each of them as a couple. Note to self: kleenex is good to have in pocket for guests, but also for me, thank you very much.

Everyone made their way to a gallery at 12 Gallagher Lane and danced their backsides off even after neighbors tried to shut them down. Their friends and family gathered around them and stomped a rhythm and shouted out lyrics to their favorite songs. Oh and Lindsey’s dad yanked out a saber and he and Chris took turns knocking the tops of of a couple bottles of champagne.

As their sign says, “Yield to Love.” And wow…what a way to set an example. Thank you two!

City Hall Restaurant Wedding: Karen + John

My wife, Kate, and I met Karen and John through a mutual friend a couple of Memorial Days ago and really hit it off. They are the kind of couple that every other couple wants to be like and be liked by. We’d had a few dinners with them and really enjoyed getting to know them. We were thrilled to be asked to shoot their wedding at City Hall Restaurant. We got a chance to do a first look on a very warm day in Central Park and man, oh man, did they glow. I always make a real effort to make the portrait session relaxing and fun…more like a little private time…an oasis of calm in the middle of the wildness of the day. These two really took it to heart and laughed and smiled and huge and just loved one another.

I am so grateful to know Karen and John and even more grateful that I will get to continue to know them better. Amazing people. Amazing wedding.

Jung and Jay are freaking fearless. What you don’t see in these photos, particularly the outdoor ones, is that the temperature is a balmy 28 degrees. Not a single complaint from either of them. Warmed by love? I think so. The Yale Club was dressed up in festive Christmas ornaments and that warm blast of heat as we entered was salvation for us all. Jung and Jay…best winter wedding EVER.

I loved this wedding. From beginning to end. One of my favorite venues, Osborne Castle, which is no longer hosting events, so I feel grateful to have been able to shoot there in the couple of years it was open. Gorgeous colors in the trees, a raucous party in the tent, and love everywhere you looked. It was a big breath of fresh air and a wild celebration of Avi and Sara. Perfect, you two…just perfect.

Steampunk Wedding. Two words. Count me in.

I’ve always found an incredible affinity for people who thrown traditions to the wind and do things their own way, crushing expectations and getting people excited about what they are excited in. This wedding was just phenomenal. The costumes, venue and everything about it really made the day sing.

Mymoon Brooklyn Wedding: Alicia + Mike

Wow, Brooklynites…tough to top this one.

I had done Alicia’s headshots a few years back and, as my grandmother used to say, she was a “hoot.” (This is a good thing, non-Minnesotans…)

I was thrilled to hear that she had decided to get married and snapped up the chance to be her photographer. When she told me her wedding was going to be like 6 blocks from my apartment at Mymoon Restaurant, it was just the icing on the cake.

From Harleys drowning out the ceremony to the NYPD getting in on the action (never seen the police so happy as to be asked to take pics with these stunning bridesmaids) it was a wonderful day if a bit windy!

Alicia and Mike, I wish you a long, healthy, fulfilling life together.
